Shetland Wildlife

Shetland Wildlife is an award winning wildlife tour company, based as the name suggests in the spectacularly beautiful Shetland Isles. It's run by Hugh Harrop and his wife Michelle ably supported by a number of expert guides.

Hugh founded Shetland Wildlife in 1992 after spells working for Fair Isle Bird Observatory, the Shetland Oil Terminal Environmental Advisory Group and the RSPB. He is one of Shetland's top birders and naturalists, is a regular contributor to several birdwatching magazines and journals and author of Where to Watch Birds in Shetland and co-author of the new 'Britain's Sea Mammals'.

Shetland Wildlife run a wide variety of bird and wildlife watching tours, specialist photo tours and walking weeks based in Shetland and Orkney. They also run a full programme of trips abroad including birdwatching in Extremadura, winter bird photography in northern Scandinavia and a spring bird photo tour in Hungary.

Shetland is one of my favourite locations for wildlife photography. Dramatic coastlines, hugh sea cliffs, wild interiors all lend themselves as superb backdrops to the wildlife that is found there.

Otters are perhaps at their highest density on Shetland, the seabird colonies are home to thousands of birds, many of them easily accessible and the Autumn migration brings in a host or rarer birds.

One of the best ways of getting to know the many Islands that make up Shetland, and the wildlife there is to go on an organised wildlife watching trip. There is no one better to do this with than Shetland Wildlife.
