Otter Lutra lutra

Otters are my favourite subject - I have been photographing them for over 35 years. Living in Scotland I spend a great deal of my time on the west coast and in Shetland where the Scottish coastal otter is most numerous. These otters are not a sub species but they do favour coastal waters and are often to be found out and about during the day. They also have much smaller territories than the riverine otters making them much easier to see and photograph.

My favourite locations are Shetland and Islay and  I photograph them using a Nikon DSLR and a 200-400 f4 lens. I prefer to use a bean bag resting on a suitable rock than a tripod which just gets in the way when stalking.
